What's going on in Gooroonu Class at Cherbourg State School ...
Level: Years 1-4
Gooroonu Class is a multi-age class with students aged from seven to 10 years of age.
Gooroonu is having a great year with excellent attendance and all students in uniform.
We love stories and paintings and have created murals depicting our unit owrk for "The Little Red Hen" and "Sun, Sea and Safety".
We wrote our own book about helping based on "The Little Red Hen" story. It is called "Making Jelly" and you can view it here.
The highlights of our year have been:
Dance - During the first term we had weekly dance lessons with dance professionals from Brisbane. Everyone joined in and had lots of fun.
Barambah Camp - We went with Miss Zela's class to Barambah for three days.We slept in bunk beds, went orienteering, bushwalking, made traditional shelters, played traditional games and ate a lot.
Underwater World - the culmination of our Sun, Sea and Safety Unit was a trip to Mooloolaba to visit Underwater World where we saw the seal show, lots of interesting fish and sea animals and had fish and chips for lunch.
This term we will learn more about how life has changed for indigenous people over the years. We are inviting local Elders to tell us about the past and show us traditional art techniques.
