Cherbourg observes 'Sorry' Day

Cherbourg was just one of many communities across Australia that recognised 'Sorry' Day, the national apology to indigenous people of Australia, made by the Federal Government on 12 February 2008.

Respected Cherbourg community member and school groundsman Pop John Stanley - pictured right - visited the school on 'Sorry' Day and spoke to the students, teachers and parents about the significance of 'Sorry' Day in addressing the pain and hurt of the Stolen generations and past injustices to indigenous Australians.

A display in the IKC, including a healing tree, complemented the general community awareness of this national event.
